Maria Miesenberger

Left: Utan titel (Vår), from the series Sverige/Schweden 1993–2000, gelatin silver print
Right: Standing Motion, 2012, stainless steel

Galleri Andersson/Sandström is delighted to announce that the gallery now represents artist Maria Miesenberger.

Maria Miesenberger (born 1965) is one of Sweden's most prominent artists in her generation. She works with photography and sculpture and explores existential subjects such as identity, body, memories and liberation, the private and the universal.

In one of her most famous projects Sverige/Schweden (1993-2000), awarded the Swedish Photo Book Award in 2011, she used her father's photo album containing snapshots that he took when she was a child. She photographed the images again and then blotted the people out with ink so that only blackened silhouettes remained; like vast projection surfaces open to the viewer's own thoughts, memories and experiences. A longing for working three-dimensional and controlling her own development made her start with sculpture, first in textile materials and later in aluminium, stainless steel, bronze and glass. The sculptures are often modeled after her siblings or own children and covered by a relief pattern, such as in Stilla Rörelse/Standing Motion (2012) or Change of Direction (2015) where the corneal nerve threads form a kind of bodily topography.

Assa Kauppi, Frozen Fright sculpture series, Galleri Andersson/Sandström

Frozen Fright

6.4 - 13.5 2017

Assa Kauppi’s breakthrough came in 2011, when she won over viewers and critics with her enduring sculptures. The Race is Over (2011) and In Search of A Winner (2013) addressed contemporary issues, such as competitiveness and the pressure to perform. In this third solo exhibition with Galleri Andersson/Sandström in Stockholm, she once again calls attention on tendencies in today’s society. The series Frozen Fright, consists of eleven different characters with unique individual faiths, but all share a universal feeling of angst and seriousness.

Placed on the floor, the eleven bronze figures range in ethnicity, age, and represent various segments of the world population. The arrangement invokes a similar feeling of an aerial photography and a snap-shot of people laying down, gazing up towards the sky.

Hanging from the ceiling are hand-stitched parachutes made from synthetic silk, the largest of which is nearly one meter in diameter gives the appearance of glass. Like the tentacles of a jellyfish, the parachute’s cords are in a temporarily resting state. A clear message is communicated, a sense of ambivalence increases, is there a potential danger or is help on the way?

Antonio Pessoa - 1957 / 2012

By the time you finish reading this article, you'll discover Antonio Pessoa's secret to reaching the peak Art and Life performance level. This secret at this point of his life is responsible for generating successful gigantic projects and innovative amazing artistic concepts, each and everyday. So what's the contemporary Great Master's mindset that makes his Art and Life route extremely easy? This question has been reviewed over and over again and the multiple rewarding results in the artist's life, that's all one needs to accept the fact that after all it's a matter of positive attitude and his supreme master key, imagination. On the whole, his most important thinking is his infinite beliefs that everything is possible. This Passion automatically sets his creative juices in motion and effective action to play right here and right on time the ultimate role, where invention is the light bulb, Pessoa's magical inner device which connects him anywhere, anytime with the universe of multiple possibilities and opportunities, making way for for him and his team to actually live an exciting and rewarding experience everyday. Antonio Pessoa's Passion-mindset has brought him the lifestyle of perfect abundance he is living and sharing with his friends, co-workers and public, feeling how wonderful it is and it feels to make Art and enjoy life his way and doing the things he desires and is so passionate about. The artist quality mindset keeps brightening his outlook, raising his emotions, and increasingly allowing him to be more and more the magnet, mentor and model to artists and public, and in so doing also allowing them to experience the many benefits of how easy it is to skyrocket Art and Life, just by unleashing the power within, with Passion, joy, excitement, ready to step on the stage and play! The artist's method to attract this New World of infinite possibilities, in Art and Life, has become a Must - much asked for - magical combination of wise steps and master key attitudes. Realistic or not, he may even imagine to walk on water as he splashes colors onto the canvas, even walking on the moon, once he decides it's possible.
