Heartbeat - Antonio Pessoa

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. The artist's systematic visualization of a new- innovative contemporary communication outflow, is unquestionably the Heartbeat's heart and soul. Previously designing this worldwide-oriented concept, inspiring an entirely revolutionary and powerfully positive attitude towards the on-going art scene, Antonio Pessoa, once again, shows up as the perfect reflexion of his reputation, by suggesting with contagious determination and enthusiasm, a brand-New Age of art-public intercommunication, aiming at empowering the mutual relationship precisely between art, artists, gallery owners, art scene in general and the gigantic community of art lovers, art collectors, media, worldwide public. What else could actually be more exciting and new than this pro-life, pro-art, pro-future and pro- global communication striking futuristic concept, a truly innovative approach for even greater dynamic flexibility directly concerning this art-public interactive universal togetherness? Here we go again, so let's propose a toast to the Heartbeat's larger-than-life divine inspiration, heroic epic Project visualising a New Era of intimate closeness between art and public! Limitless possibilities, now that everything seems to come so easily, the artist's secret to living successfully, feeling and acting by the passionate rhythm of his heartbeat. The mindset two by two dance "get-to-it- iveness" and "stick-to-it-iveness", creates the larger than life action super positive mood, all he actually needs to move him towards entrepreneurial artistic freedom, and in so doing his blazing desire for daily creativity keeps on accumulating new concepts and inspiration flow for future awesome oeuvre.

Monika Thiele at the German Textile Museum

StickBILDER

Monika Thiele at the German Textile Museum in Krefeld

GALERIE SUPPER is happy to announce that Monika Thiele, who is represented by us, will be participating in the group exhibition StickBILDER at the German Textile Museum in Krefeld. The exhibition presents important positions of international contemporary textile art. In addition to ten selected works by Monika Thiele, art by Brunhild Mauss, Gisoo Kim, Katharina Wilke and Victoria Martini will be on view. The artist will be present at the opening.

Within her artistic practice, Monika Thiele applies colors of most different materialities. Yet, what never changes and what the artist does not cease to explore is the presence of the straight line. Her thread paintings were internationally acknowledged through her participation in prestigious exhibition projects such as the Biennale di Venezia (2013) or the 9th International Textile Biennial Shenzen in China (2016). With needle and thread, Monika Thiele creates multi-layered worlds, weaving personal (hi)stories and cultural-historical references into a dense net of associations and allusions.

Maria Miesenberger

Left: Utan titel (Vår), from the series Sverige/Schweden 1993–2000, gelatin silver print
Right: Standing Motion, 2012, stainless steel

Galleri Andersson/Sandström is delighted to announce that the gallery now represents artist Maria Miesenberger.

Maria Miesenberger (born 1965) is one of Sweden's most prominent artists in her generation. She works with photography and sculpture and explores existential subjects such as identity, body, memories and liberation, the private and the universal.

In one of her most famous projects Sverige/Schweden (1993-2000), awarded the Swedish Photo Book Award in 2011, she used her father's photo album containing snapshots that he took when she was a child. She photographed the images again and then blotted the people out with ink so that only blackened silhouettes remained; like vast projection surfaces open to the viewer's own thoughts, memories and experiences. A longing for working three-dimensional and controlling her own development made her start with sculpture, first in textile materials and later in aluminium, stainless steel, bronze and glass. The sculptures are often modeled after her siblings or own children and covered by a relief pattern, such as in Stilla Rörelse/Standing Motion (2012) or Change of Direction (2015) where the corneal nerve threads form a kind of bodily topography.

ASSA KAUPPI, FROZEN FRIGHT, 6.4-13.5

Assa Kauppi, Frozen Fright sculpture series, Galleri Andersson/Sandström

ASSA KAUPPI

Frozen Fright

6.4 - 13.5 2017

Assa Kauppi’s breakthrough came in 2011, when she won over viewers and critics with her enduring sculptures. The Race is Over (2011) and In Search of A Winner (2013) addressed contemporary issues, such as competitiveness and the pressure to perform. In this third solo exhibition with Galleri Andersson/Sandström in Stockholm, she once again calls attention on tendencies in today’s society. The series Frozen Fright, consists of eleven different characters with unique individual faiths, but all share a universal feeling of angst and seriousness.

Placed on the floor, the eleven bronze figures range in ethnicity, age, and represent various segments of the world population. The arrangement invokes a similar feeling of an aerial photography and a snap-shot of people laying down, gazing up towards the sky.

Hanging from the ceiling are hand-stitched parachutes made from synthetic silk, the largest of which is nearly one meter in diameter gives the appearance of glass. Like the tentacles of a jellyfish, the parachute’s cords are in a temporarily resting state. A clear message is communicated, a sense of ambivalence increases, is there a potential danger or is help on the way?
