Cricket, sledging and controversy go hand in hand and what could be better if the teams are India and Australia. In April, former Australia captain Michael Clarke had raised a controversy when he claimed that the Australians had "sucked up" to Indian captain Virat Kohli in recent times to protect their deals in the cash-rich Indian Premier League.

Australia had played the home Test series against India in 2018-19 with the "right spirit" and they were not trying to be nice to their opposition to get IPL contracts, said Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch, rejecting Michael Clarke's controversial comments.

"They were obviously not being nice to impress because they wanted an IPL contract. There is nothing about it," Finch recently told Sports Tak. "If you ask anyone playing on the field, they will tell you that it was very, very tough. It was played in the right spirit, but it was very tough. Not sure where it was coming from."

However, the India series was only the second Test series after their infamous ball-tampering controversy that caused the previous captain Steve Smith and David Warner's suspensions for a year as well. He also said that the team was going through a transition, and many players trying to find their place in international cricket and doing that against India too.

"Talking as a batsman, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, you can't hide against that kind of attack."

"Michael said we were being nice, but people were just trying to find their own game, they were trying their best way to play Test cricket. But everyone is entitled to their views; he might have seen something from the outside which we didn't see from inside," shared Aaron Finch.

However, India registered a 2-1 win against Australia and that was their first-ever Test series win on Australian soil as well. Not only Finch, Australia Test captain Tim Paine, pace bowler Pat Cummins and former batting great of India VVS Laxman had also slammed Michael Clarke for his comments.
