"MS Dhoni is what he is because of his unbiased opinions," revealed former India player RP Singh who recalled a selection controversy way back in 2008 when the pace bowler lost his place in the team to another speedster Irfan Pathan.
In 2008, a media report had also claimed that Dhoni wanted RP Singh instead of Pathan during the home ODI series against England. However, recalling all incidents and his career of 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20s, RP Singh has said that he had no hard feelings over his exclusion.
"I don't think I was affected by the leak. The England series we are talking about, I didn't get a wicket in Indore. Obviously people think they will get 2 or 3 more chances. But it was not meant to be. Some get 5 chances, some get 10 chances the lucky ones," the pace bowler said to 'Sports Tak', whose last game for India came way back in 2011.
He further added, "But many times it has happened to me, whenever my performance dipped, I was directly sent to play domestic cricket. Sometimes, people tend to stay with the team even if their performance dips and get good quality practice. The moment you go to domestic cricket, you won't get that quality competition."
He again said that MS Dhoni was a fair captain and their friendship never affected because of his decision. Singh revealed that they had a discussion about where he could improve and also how he could do better with his bowling. He again said that friendship is a different thing, but leading the country is certainly a different thing.
The speedster has also shared that there was a reason why Dhoni got the captaincy early who led the stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. His calmness, match awareness as a keeper, batting potential and keeping ability did the job for him.
