The football video game series airs in August each year, but during the weeks preceding its release the team from EA Sports has made a every year tradition of publishing the player ratings involved in the game. Through a partnership with ESPN and the company that makes videogames that produces the game, ratings for various roles will be released on ESPN over the course of the week.
Yesterday, the overall ratings of the top 10 rookies were revealed and the Detroit Lions first-round pick, Penei Sewell, was among those coronated with their first-ever Madden rating.

Sewell's 75 overall rating is the highest-rated rookie offensive lineman , which should come as no surprise, considering Sewell, the sought-after Oregon player was also the first player taken off the list on draft night. Atlanta's tight end Kyle Pitts, the fourth selection of the NFL Draft, leads the way for this class of rookies with an 81 overall score at the start of the draft. Two players selected earlier than Sewell at the time of the draft ended up with overall ratings over him: Denver's Patrick Surtain II and Philadelphia's DeVonta Smith.

Last year, Lions' first-round draft choice Jeff Okudah earned an overall rating of 76. start the season. But after a season plagued by injuries it will be interesting to learn how he's assessed in the upcoming edition of Madden.
