The biggest difference between the modes, of course, is the fact that Road to the Show allows players to choose who their character is and which role they will play. The narrative is also almost entirely up to the user. In the meantime, Face of the Franchise allows users to play the role of a pre-created character and play specific steps in their development. Face of the Franchise could be improved in one area that is that it lets users take more control of their career. It's enjoyable to put an interest in the game and then just wait for the opportunity to call. It's not as fun when you have a player that people are aware of as a "star in the NFL".
When it comes to immersing players in the franchise mode, the best way to make it appear that users are really running the team is to let the players control everything. This includes the "GM" role, which is responsible for staffing the team. MLB The Show 21 allows players to hire or dismiss the manager and pitching coach, hitting coach, bench coach and so on. In Madden NFL 21, users can hire and fire the head coach, however there's not even a mention of other assistants. It's an oddity considering how crucial the real NFL is to the offensive and defensive coordinators and the coaches for positions.
