• The following are possible reasons why a Samsung ice maker is not filling with water, or is receiving water but not enough, and how to fix them:

    Ice maker is off

Look at the ice maker's on/off button, if it has one. Make sure it is in the on position, otherwise the ice maker will not work - appliance repair gta.

If your ice maker doesn't have a button, take a look at the control panel. Some models have an Ice On or Ice Off icon to show when the ice maker is on to make ice. Make sure the Ice Off icon is not on. If it is, consult the user manual to determine how to change it.

Although it may seem silly, it is one of the most common reasons for this problem.

You have to change the water filter

Replace the water filter if it has been in use for more than 6 months. And if you have changed it recently, check that you have installed it correctly. This is because a poorly installed or clogged filter can reduce the flow of water in the ice maker.

If you are unsure how to replace the water filter, consult the user manual for your specific Samsung refrigerator model. And make sure you purchase the right type of filter for the unit, otherwise it won't work.

The water inlet valve is defective

Low water pressure may affect the inlet valve's ability to allow water to pass through the ice maker. Therefore, make sure the water pressure is at least 20 psi and no more than 120 psi. If not, there will be no water in the ice maker.

To determine this, dispense water up to ¾ cup of water in 10 seconds. If it is slower than this, the pressure is not enough. Increase it or have a professional come fix it.

However, if the pressure is sufficient, test the valve solenoid to make sure it is receiving power. If there is no power or continuity, replace the inlet valve as soon as possible.

    The water line is frozen

Unplug the refrigerator and disconnect the water line from the valve and check if it is frozen or clogged. If it does not feel cool to the touch, it is probably clogged by water deposits over time.

Pour some distilled vinegar down the pipe to loosen any residue and remove it. Do this as many times as necessary to clear the blockage.

But if it is frozen, leave the unit unplugged from the power for some time to allow the ice in the water line to melt. This also means storing food in the unit somewhere else so it doesn't defrost and spoil.

    Control arm is off

If the control arm is raised, it means the ice maker will not be able to run the ice making cycle. It also means that water cannot fill the ice maker. Push it to the up position so that water can fill the ice mold and make ice.

It's easy to accidentally push the arm down, especially when trying to fix something on the ice maker.

    Ice maker needs a reset

Most Samsung refrigerator ice makers require the ice tray to be removed before you can get to the reset or test button. To find the button for your ice maker, consult your refrigerator's user manual.

Press the button when you find it and hold it until you hear a beep or chime. This indicates that the ice maker is testing or restarting. After a few minutes, another beep or chime tells you that the cycle is complete and the test was successful.

Doing this usually fixes minor errors and malfunctions in a Samsung ice maker. But if the problem persists, contact Samsung for service. Alternatively, chat to any of our refrigerator technicians who can offer you expert advice.
